I came across Steph Kapela‘s new single ‘Forget Me‘ by accident, and sure enough as its discovery, it was unexpected that the song would be this good.
The way the heavy drops and instrumentals interact with the splendid baseline make it unmistakably an Atwal Music production – that in itself testament to how talented Steph is with his craft.
‘Forget Me’ is a blend of Kiswahili and English, kicking off with Kapela singing about how music is his life and soul, and contrary to it’s title, he sings about you not forgetting him because ‘he’s sufficient’.
‘Nipe nafasi kiasi, nipe kalamu nipe karatasi, nafanya bidii nafanya bidii, kwangu muziki ni kazi‘ Steph Kapela cantillates.
At the tail end of the track, there’s a great infusion of an askari‘s orders, which happens to be quite the humbling experience for Steph Kapela, who’s been exuding bravado. He’s told to sit down on the floor, as he doesn’t care who he is, and if he wants to report the matter, he can go ahead.
This is definitely a Kenyan artist to look out for. Listen to the new single below and tell us what you think in the comments section.
