2nd Eastern Africa Music Summit ‘ONGEA!’ Opens in Nairobi

The biggest Music Summit in Eastern Africa – ONGEA!, opens its doors to the public today, Thursday 16th and runs through to Sunday 19th February 2017 at the Sarit Centre Expo Hall in Westlands – Nairobi.

ONGEA!, which was born out the Kenya Music Week which had run for 10 years up until 2013, has recently broadened its prospects to encompass the entire region, bringing together Industry Professionals such as Artists, Associations, Bands, Booking Agents, Collective Management Organisations, Digital Distributors, Educational Institutions, Media Houses and Record Labels from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Cameroon and South Africa.

Some of the attractions at the 2nd edition of the ONGEA! Music Summit include a Networking Lounge, a Recording Studio, Industry panels and Scholarships from the Sauti Academy.

While the Open Mic sessions are specifically tailored for for upcoming Musicians and take place on the weekend, talent auditions are scoped by Sauti Academy which is offering two fully paid 1-year scholarships.

The Industry panel sessions aim at bringing together thought leaders of the Eastern Africa Music Industry with discussions on Broadcast, Digital Distribution, Festival Bookings, Live Sound, Monetising Compositions, Music & Culture, Music Education, and Rights Compliance.

Musicians from Cameroon, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda will take to the stage for nightly performances, all supported by a professional equipment from  Protel Studios, MOB Entertainment, Artville Music and PHAT! Productions.

The performances will be observed by renowned Festival Bookers from Mozambique (Jess White of AKUM Agency, AZGO festival and IGODA festival circuit, Rwanda (Eric Karengera of AFROGROOV, Isaano festival, Kigali!Up festival and I am Kigali festival, South Africa (Tshepo Nzimande of Moshito and Uganda (Herman Kabubi of Bayimba Festival and DOADOA.

Additionally, the 3rd Mdundo Awards will be held on Thursday 16th February (6.00pm-7.30pm); as well as a Guinness World Record attempt at recording the Longest Song with the most Artists, to be carried out by Mdundo and Artville Music.

The entire Event shall be Streamed Live, from HD Cameras by Protel Studios via Highway Audiovisual, on YouTube.
