What are the hottest new tracks on the African continent and around the globe? In this week’s edition of the OYGK Global Select, your weekly guide to new music that’s short-circuiting airwaves and screens, we look at amazing new work that’s worth watching…
1. Sarkodie – Pain Killer (feat RunTown)
Arguably the biggest African song this Valentine’s Day week, yeah sounds strange now that I said, ‘Pain Killer’ has an addictively slow mellow tune that’s a perfect dedication to that special someone, and what we’ve crowned as the hottest love song release this hemisphere.
2. Di’Ja – Air
Nigerian sensation Di’Ja is in the limelight again with a Bay Fresh produced single ‘Air’. I’m still not too sure whether that’s her voice or simply auto tune, but it sure does sound great!
3. Dotman – Escobar (feat Davido)
‘Hakuna Matata’ is a phrase you’ll hear on this single that features Davido, one of the biggest artistes of the moment.
4. Navy Kenzo – Bajaj (feat Patoranking)
Tanzanian group Navy Kenzo teams up with Patoranking to produce Bajaj, a beautiful swahili love song dedication to the woman who’s gripped your heart.
5. Trey Songz – Nobody Else But You
Trey Songz has revealed episode one of the ‘Tremaine the Playboy’ series, part of a composition he terms as confessionals of his career and private life.
6. Beyonce – Shining (feat Jay Z and DJ Khaled)
Honestly, nobody saw this track coming, what with Beyonce having recently performed at the Grammys, and her globe-stopping announcement that she’s pregnant and expecting twins. But with a performance due at Coachella in April, we wouldn’t expect anything less from Queen Bee. Listen to the amazing audio below:
7. Rae Sremmurd – Swang
Sremmurd’s brand new ‘Swang’ is all about Gangstas and golf courses. Watch his latest rap single below:
8. Alex Aiono – Work the Middle
YouTube covers sensation Alex Aiono has finally left the electric piano and indoor settings we’re used to and come up with his first original piece that’s a danceable huge hit that shows us Alex like we’ve never seen him before.
