Kenya’s ‘Kati Kati’ and ‘Zili Zala’ Scoop 2017 Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards

Kenyan fictional piece and 2016 Toronto Film Festival award recepient ‘Kati Kati’  scooped the Best Movie East Africa recognition over the weekend at the 2017 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards held in Lagos, Nigeria.

The film, which was the title attraction at the recent inaugural Nairobi Film Festival,  follows a long line of successful One Fine Day Film Workshop features which have grabbed international acclaim, including ‘Soul Boy’ and ‘Nairobi Half Life‘, with production led by Tom Tykwer.

The only other Kenyan feature to scoop an award was Daudi Otieno’s ‘Zili Zala‘ wwhich won in the Best Indigenous Language Movie or TV series – Swahili category.

The 2017 AMVCAs were held at the Eko Hotel in Lagos and featured performances by artists such as Timi Dakolo, Lira and Waje. Other performances included The Voice Nigeria winner Arese’s tribute to departed actors, and the stunning renditions by other Voice alumni Chike and DNA.
