The 2017 Riverwood Academy Awards, arguably the biggest night for the film and TV fraternity in Kenya, was held over the weekend March 11th, and saw Furet Film‘s ‘Kizingo‘ grab the award for Best Film.

On a night that saw Raymond Wafula receive the Riverwood Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by the Kenya Film and Classification Board‘s CEO, Ezekiel Mutua, Anubhav Ghard also grabbed Best Actor recognition trouncing Gerald Langiri and Washington Apolo, for his role in ‘Beyond‘.

In the Best Actress category, Keziah Mugure won the Award, as Sally Atieno grabbed the Supporting Actress award for her performance in ‘Zilizala‘.

Critics have faulted the organisers of the Riverwood Academy Awards for falling short on organisation and coordination of the grand night, with some saying it did not meet international standards. However, the film fraternity turned up in their numbers to support the industry that’s fledgling, and hopefully will take off soon.
