EMA awards recognizes green businesses, Chandaria Industries win big

The Energy Management Awards were held last night at Safari Park Hotel. Chandaria Industries emerged winners of the Overall Management prize in a night that saw businesses adopting green technologies feted for their efforts.

The Energy Management Awards have been held since 2004. Kenyan Association of Manufacturers, Global Environment facility and Government of Kenya have been collaborating to recognize companies that had instilled the sense of energy conservation in their business practices.

The Sustainable Energy week was held at Safari Park hotel and the award ceremony was the icing on that green cake. This year’s edition had seventy entries of large, medium and small scale businesses. The theme this year was “Thirteen years towards a green economy”

Flora Mutahi, KAM chair spoke on their vision for the Manufacturing industry to contribute 15% up from 11% to the country’s GDP. Already the largest consumers of the energy produced in the Country at 60%, she emphasized on the need for adoption of green technologies in business models.

Mr. Siddharth Chatterjee who is the UN resident coordinator and the chief guest of the occasion applauded Kenya companies in their efforts towards a green economy. He emphasized on the need for Kenya to re-think on its Energy security plans for the sake of the next generations.

  6. Fuel Savings Award (Large Consumer) – Athi River Mining Ltd
  7. Best energy Management Team Award- Cook N Lite
  8. Best New Entrant – Trianium Hospitality (Kolobot Gardens)
  9. Technical Committee’s Award-Best presentation – BAT Nairobi
  10. Best Energy Management –Tea Sector  -Gitugi Tea Factory
  11. Best Energy Management –Service Sector – SarovaLionhill Game Lodge
  12. Recognition in Water Efficiency- Kenya Breweries, Osho Chemicals, BATA, James Finlays- Kitumbe
  13. Overall Energy Management Award-Small Consumer – Gitugi Tea Factory
