The OYGK Global Chart looks at new music releases this week, sharing the best from the continent, and around the globe. This week, Chris Brown made a surprise drop, with a new release ahead of his upcoming album at the end of the month, and Yemi Alade convinced us that we weren’t wrong about her musical chemistry with Nyashinski.
Also, Toni Braxton is attempting a comeback, alongside Mariah Carey, TLC and Keisha Cole, as there’s some Coke Studio performances that were definite showstoppers. Down south, Heavy K Drumboss is setting some heavy tunes with a new trailer as Jessie J gives us a bit of mellow. Enjoy this week’s new music and share some of your other favourites which aren’t included, in the comments section or with the tag #OYGKGlobalChart…
1. Denise – Allofo (feat. Nasty C and Runtown)
The thumpy and delicious mash-up of ‘Allofo’ is quite the best listen I’ve had with new music releases this week. It’s a Coke Studio Africa 2017 performance that deserves a standing ovation…
2. Joyce Omondi – Lihimidi Jina Lake
Kenyan gosepl artist Joyce Omondi has made a resurgence with a beautiful new music video that’s as inspirational as it is appealing to watch. Here it is…
3. Yemi Alade – Nakupenda [Swahili Version] (Feat. Nyashinski)
Yemi Alade now has a total of three versions of her single ‘Nakupenda’, and the latest which we reviewed, featuring Kenya’s MTV EMA nominated star Nyashinski is a winner. Watch it below…
4. Dremo – Ojere [Big Break] (feat. Nyashinski & Mafikizolo)
There’s something about African crunk music that just sounds so WOKE. It’s a mix of swag and tempestuous bravado when listening to the musical magic of these phenomenal African artistes.
5. Heavy K – Inde (feat. Bucie & Nokwazi)
The hottest new tune out of South Africa this week is Heavy K’s ‘Inde’ and he’s just released it’s trailer…
6. Chris Brown – High End (feat. Future)
The new music video from RnB’s tumultuous King begins with a Rated R disclaimer that the production should be treated as a ‘work of art’. It’s a disturbing new video that’s right at home in the halloween season.
7. Jessie J – Not My Ex
Not relying on anything other than her voice, Jessie J’s new sultry single is a joy to simply watch, listen to, and appreciate. Check it out here:
8. Toni Braxton – Deadwood
Toni Braxton’s sister’s comeback must have inspired her to take a studio visit down memory lane, as she recently released this beautiful new video called ‘Deadwood’, and there’s nothing dead about it…
9. Major Lazor – Particular (feat. DJ Maphorisa, Jidenna, Nasty C, Ice Prince & Patoranking)
I had not envisioned the video to this 2017 mega-hit being shot in Johannesburg, South Africa. (okay, now it’s not hard to imagine) but the 80s/70s theme brings a fresh look at the colossal success that’s an ode to Africa Nouveau.
10. Jazmine Sullivan – Insecure (feat. Bryson Tiller)
Fans of the hit HBO series ‘Insecure’ will be right at home watching their favourite characters, play out (and in) of character in this slow rendition by the talented Jazmine. Enjoy…
