As if fatally wounding Snapchat wasn’t enough, Facebook is now taking a significant step to counter YouTube’s dominance in the video content space with the announcement of a launch of tools to further encourage original content creators and influencers post more through a new App and a dedicated website.
Facebook says that the app will help creators manage their presence on Facebook and the website will act as a central destination where creators can get the resources they need to improve and grow.
On the App, creators can create original video, go live with exclusive features, and connect with their community on Facebook. The features include a Live Creative Kit which offers access to tools that make it easy to create live broadcasts with a personalized and fun feel. Creators can now add intros as openers to their live broadcasts, outros that conclude them, custom live stickers and graphic frames to create a consistent brand.
There’s also a Community Tab enabling connecting with fans and collaborators through a unified inbox, which centralizes comments from Facebook and Instagram, and messages from Messenger. Users can explore revamped camera effects and frames and easily cross-post content to other platforms, also accessing Facebook Stories to engage with their fans. Insights offers metrics to inform content creation, including analytics about your Page, videos and fans.
The caveat is that the Facebook Creator app has launched on iOS, with an Android roll-out expecting ‘in the coming months’. It’s the first significant stab Facebook has taken at Google‘s giant video platform YouTube.
