Marvel‘s third installment of the Crown Prince of Asgard, the $180 million Thor: Ragnarok, has made back over half of its production cost in barely three days of opening in international markets including the UK, ahead of its release in Kenya on Thursday 2nd November 2017.
Opening on the date in cinemas across the country, in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu, Thor 3 brings back Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba and Anthony Hopkins, as well as newcomers Cate Blanchett, who’s performance as the villain Hela, goddess of death (featured above), has been praised, Jeff Goldblum and Tessa Thompson.
Thor (Hemsworth) is imprisoned on the other side of the universe, following a deadly attack on the Asgardian realm by a zealous goddess of death, and finds himself in a race against time to get back to his homeland in order to stop Ragnarok, the destruction and end of the glorious Asgardian civilization, at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela (Blanchett). The film has received a solid Rotten Tomatoes rating of 98% and an 8.2 rating on IMDB. Critics tie it, together with DC’s upcoming Justice League, due November 17th, as the most highly anticipated films of the last quarter of 2017.
Elsewhere, Bladerunner 2049 is the highest grossing film in Kenya, the week ending October 27th, according to The-Numbers website. The film is based on the 1982 cult classic starring Harrison Ford, and features Ryan Gosling as ‘K’, an LAPD officer in the future who makes a discovery that threatens to shake the very core of society.
The Warner Bros Distaster picture, Geostorm, could prove to be one of Gerard Butler‘s greatest features, already outperforming his previous films Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen and Into the Storm. Geostorm tells the story of earth’s efforts to counter climate change effects which leads to a network of satellites which seek to control the climate of the entire planet, for a time, until everything starts to go awry.
‘Thor: Ragnarok’ will screen at Planetmedia, Century, FOX and Anga cinemas from November 2nd
