Kenyan rapper Kevin Grands has released the fourth audio installment of his latest project, following the three track boom-bap EP ‘Balance‘ released earlier in 2017, and it’s titled ‘Free Lunch‘.
“I wrote this song to let people know that nobody is going to hand you whatever you need to excel; you have to work for it. The song is basically a statement. To get whatever you want, you have to work for it.” Kevin Grands says, further augmented by lyrics in the single such as ‘Same circle, never oversize… this is the life that we chose’.
‘Free Lunch’ talks of the struggles Kevin has been through, how at the beginning of a tumultuous career in the Kenyan rap scene, some dismissed his ambitions in the industry as temporary, or something that would not last long, and how years later he’s still in the game and up for the competition.
Produced by Playmakr, the single further explores how he signed onto his current label ID37 Music, and his quest to raise music standards while balancing a tightrope of appealing to the masses.
The track is meticulously produced, with tunes and beats that are measured and in tandem with a steady flow from Kevin Grandes. Earlier this year, his EP “Balance” featured three hard hitting tracks ‘Balance’, ‘Pretty Hard’ and ‘In Your Section’. Off the project, he has released How I Run It (HIRI), No Company, Wish (feat. Superprodusir) and now, Free Lunch.
