After a bit of a hiatus, Norway-based and Kenyan artiste extraordinaire Stella Mwangi is finally ‘Ready to Pop‘ with a deluxe new single that she vehemently claims is not commercial pop as her previous works, but more of explicit hip-Hop.
‘Back by popular demand. Things are going as I planned… Ready to Pop!’ she opens up in the doomsday sounding track, with a melange of red, green and blue hues. It’s not as ‘Happy’ as one of her first tracks, but a sombre and perfunctory piece in which Stella declares that she is back for her throne.
‘But by the statistic, I ain’t no victim So don’t get it twisted, I ain’t going no where.’
It’s certainly a sharp message to her critics, for which her hiatus may have been judged equivocally sharply because she’s enjoyed lots of love from Hollywood with her tracks ‘Set It Off’ and ‘Big Girl’ featured in middle-level Box Office blockbuster films.
Hii ni kali kabisa! Stella has also been hard at work in and out of studio, working on building her independent label in Norway called Badili Akili Music, under which she has released the very first song off her own imprint “Ready To Pop”. The single is produced by Tom Rodger Rogstad and Kim Hoglund and aimed at taking her fans back to her hard core hip hop roots.
“Okay fam, I’ve been up and about producing dope music all year and I must say this particular release represents my re-birth. Expect fire pon yo head top in 2018! I am coming out with some good heat for my true fans as well as new ones. You have all been so supportive – thank you!” Stella announced.
The recent Stella Mwangi EP released for the Hollywood Sync market in 2016/2017 was a game changer having received critical acclaim in Europe. Its songs were synced as official trailer soundtracks for Hollywood Movies like Rough Night (SONY/Columbia Pictures) and A Bad Moms Christmas (STX Films). TV series Being Mary Jane on BET, Rosewood on FOX TV and Insecure on HBO TV also got some Mwangi magic.
In addition to Badili Akili Music, positioned as social entrepreneurship ventures, Stella also unveils Vaa Ki Afrika, a sprouting Scandinavian fashion web store selling Kenyan fashion abroad.
