Kenyan Gospel Hip-Hop and RnB group Recapp walked away with a cool KES 100,000 in cash, together with a video recording sponsorship worth KES 105,000, having emerged as the best singing group of the 2017 Sarit Centre Christmas Carol Singing Competition which was launched on 27th November 2017.
The Christmas Carol singing competition, which was open to the public, only required a minimum of 5 singers in each group and maximum of 15, to enter. Performers were to post a video of them singing a carol in a cappella, and urge fans and followers to like and share the post as much as possible.
Five groups; Dedior Group, Recapp Kenya Group, N’gwashe Group, Tania Akash group and The Star Choral – were then shortlisted at the close of submission phase on 13th December by the Sarit Centre Management for the final award. The winner, runners up, and top 3 was based purely on public decision, which was the ‘most likes’ within the 2 day window of voting by 16th December 2017.
Other submissions who could not make it to the top 5 were given a token of appreciation worth KSH 10,000 to spend at The Sarit Centre, and their videos will be played at the Atrium on a TV screen.
For their winning video, Recapp chose to sing the carol classic ‘Mary, Did You Know?’ which was originally recorded in 1991 by Michael English and remastered by original lyrical composer Mark Lowry and the Gaither Vocal Band that he was a part of. The competition video garnered close to 1,000 shares on Facebook and 200 comments.
Tania Akash and Group scooped KES 50,000 for placing second with 553 shares by close of competition as Star Chorale summed up the top 3. All the winning videos can be viewed on the Sarit Centre Facebook page.
