Controversial Kenyan artist Willy Paul addresses concerns about the treatment of his mother, in a new song titled ‘Mamangu‘, also remixed featuring Ben Paul.
In Mamangu (Remix), the singer references allegations that date as far back as 2015, that Willy Paul was neglecting the godmother who had brought him up in Nairobi‘s Mathare area, despite the fact that he’s widely considered as one of the most successful artists in the country. Here, he professes his love for his mother and the fact that her health, safety and comfort always come before her.
In the track, he also sings about how he’s been forsaken by people who he thought were his friends and close neighbours, who are breeding and spewing hate, also supposedly stirring up the rumours which he labels as false, that his mother is going through hardships. He says his mother is his hero who brought him up and continues to be there for him, as he is for her.
The audio release is a tone down from more dance-able tunes we’re used to from him, but it is understandable that there had to be a sombre feel to it as he continues to strive to shake off allegations.
