The #UnderratedKE Charts sample new music and art, from upcoming, and sometimes more established, Kenyan, East African and regional artistes, who are churning out amazing content, but for some reason are not getting appreciated or noticed enough.
Nairobi-based soul artist, Noni is a massively talented singer who has been rewarding her faithful listeners with beautiful music for the past couple of years. When she reached out to us, I had to do a little digging and find out what her sound and influences are. My favourite song of hers turns out to be a 2016 single titled ‘Deeper’ which is available HERE.
The 25 year old singer, who has an upcoming studio album interestingly titled ‘Nyuki + Asali‘, describes her music as ‘melody meeting emotion’
Noni has recently released ‘Sababu’, a bass-abundant track which has her stretching the limits of her vocal depths and heights with such conviction that it’s hard to pass up a listen. We’re looking to find out what inspired her latest title. Here’s what she has to say…
‘It all began with a list. A list of the type of love that this Afro-Soul Singer, Noni would want to experience. Then the list turned into gratitude and borne ‘the reasons why’ she’d love to be in love.
‘Sababu’ started out as a full-on Afro-Fusion song. Noni then says she met the phenomenal producer Atwal Music, an occurrence that transformed the song into an Afro-Soul and newer genre Afro-Trap fusion.
‘I think those are enough sababus to take a listen to ‘SABABU’… sababu, why not?’
